The world’s oldest person Maria de Jesus has died. Maria de Jesus died on Friday, Jan. 2, 2009. Maria De Jesus was 115 when she died in Portugal. De Jesus was born in 1893, Sept. 10. De Jesus was born in a poor, rural area. De Jesus started working in agriculture when she was 12 years old. De Jesus never went to school and was illiterate. De Jesus married and had 6 children. Her daughter, Maria Madalena, told the press that her mother never fell ill or took any medication.

Gertrude Baines is now the world’s oldest person. Baines was born on April 6, 1894. The Gerontology Research Group has tracked this. They keep a database of people who are more than 110 years old.
